Q: What is Pop-up Plein- Air Painting in Park Place Pawtucket?

A: It’s a pop-up art event in Wilkinson Park (Park Place) in Pawtucket, RI for artists to set up and paint outdoors, or “plein-air” in the park. This gives passers by the chance to see many artworks in progress and interact directly with the artists.

We want to showcase working artists at work in Pawtucket! Artists– get out of the studio and bring your easel or sketchbook outside to Park Place! Network with other local and visiting artists and enjoy a beautiful spring day!

Q: When is this event?

A: Saturday, May 20, 2017, 10am- 4pm. Artists may arrive and check in 9:30am.

Q: Do I have to paint the scenery in Park Place?

A: Paint or draw whatever you want, but bring it outside! You may be inspired to paint what’s nearby, or continue your work on a previous canvas.

Q: I’m interested in participating– what more do I need to know?

A: Artists interested in participating should CLICK HERE to let organizers know you’re coming — participation is FREE! We’d like to add your name to the list of participating artists as we promote this event.

Artists should bring all they need to set up to paint or sketch: easel, paints, canvas, chair or stool, etc. Artists are encouraged to bring their own lunches and snacks, while organizers are hoping to get food trucks that day, we do not yet have confirmation on that.

The Samaritans of RI Forget-Me-Not Gallery will be open as a “home base” for the event. Artists may use the gallery for rest rooms, to take a break, get water, etc. Volunteers from the Samaritans also may be available to watch their easel if an artist needs to take a break.

Q: Can I sell art at this event?

A: While the focus of this art event is not on sales as some other art festivals, artists may make sales as they would with any other private or business transaction. Artists are encouraged to bring their own business cards, marketing materials, etc.

Q: Who are the organizers of this event?

A: The collaboration of the Pawtucket Foundation, the Samaritans of RI Forget-Me-Not Gallery, and local artist Rachel Brask, are pleased to organize this art event in the park.

Q: What promotion will be done for this event?

A: In addition to press releases, email blasts, and general social media, a Facebook event page will be our primary way of getting the word out– help us get the word out by sharing it with your networks!

Q: Who should I contact for any questions?

A: Send an email to rbrask@pawtucketfoundation.org or call 401-725-4400.
